About isbn Searches

ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a 10 or 13 digit number that makes it easy to track and find books. Rather than keeping track of book titles, authors, publishers and edition. The ISBN system allows for a systematic approach to book organization.

Computer databases can easily correlate a ISBN search to all relevant book data. The ISBN itself indicates the language a book is written in, its publisher, an identifying number and finally even a error checking checksum to easily determine invalid ISBNs.

Keep in mind ISBNs are not the same as ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number), ESBN (Electronic Standard Book Number), ISSN (International Standard Serial Number), Library of Congress Control Number, or the Dewey Decimal system. ISBNs are assigned based on the above mentioned aspects and therefore similar ISBNs may not correlate to books of the same subject.
